Chapter 31
The jazz club in Soho was perfect. The dimly-lit basement managed to deliver a surprising level of intimacy and was just the right place to seduce a woman. And Dylan Rider knew just how to do that. He was easy to like, had great charisma, but most important of all, oozed sex appeal. It was no effort to agree to a date. Heâd been trying to get her into bed for weeks.
They were in a small intimate booth and April had enjoyed the music while sipping cocktails in the glamorous 1920âs surroundings. It had a lot of class, without a hint of pretentiousness.
âWould you like to dance?â Dylan asked when a slow blues song came on.
Why not?
âThat would be nice,â she smiled and stood up.
He walked with one of his hands on her lower back towards the small dimly-lit dance floor. Sheâd wager heâd done the seduction routine stacks of times. She easily slipped into his arms and they began moving closely to the music. It actually felt pleasant.
âYou smell lovely,â he whispered in her ear, âwhat is it?â
âNothing youâd be used to buying,â she teased. Any perfume he bought for a woman you wouldnât be able to buy over the counter at Boots. Heâd be used to buying the high-end stuff.
He grinned. âYouâre such a tough nut to crack, Gemma, do you know that, mmm?â
âI wasnât aware you were trying to crack me. I thought weâd agreed on being friends.â
âI agreed to that because it was what you wanted; I wanted more. But Iâve respected your wishes, you canât deny that.â
âI know you have.â
They fitted well, close together. He smelled divine. A subtle oriental fragrance that sent her senses into overdrive. They continued in silence swaying their bodies to the rhythm of the music. Although quiet, a new intimacy was developing between the two of them.
The music eventually stopped, and he led her to their seats, his hand subtly caressing her lower back. The dance and closeness to him had certainly given her libido a huge kick.
He sat her down before taking his seat and reached for her hand. His warm brown eyes had taken on a sexy, come-to-bed, look.
His lips gently kissed the back of her hand and he held onto it as he rested it down on the table. âIâm wondering if I can persuade you to move things on between us. You must know how attracted I am to you. Dare I say you feel the same way about me?â
Go for it.
âMaybe. But Iâm thinking with my head, and not my,â she hesitated, âother regions. I still have to work for you. Okay, Iâm not cleaning your house anymore, but Iâm likely to see you at the gallery.â
âSo? Iâm not just after one night if thatâs what youâre thinking. Iâd like to get to know you . . . properly. Youâre bright, Gemma, you could do so much, especially looking the way you do.â
She gave an exaggerated sigh. âIâve got to see this rehabilitation period through, and I donât want anything jeopardising that.
